I Took Myself On A Solo Date

(Originally published 12/8/2017)

Today was one of those days that I felt very present. It was the final day of a conference and it wrapped up with an amazing speaker who created space for us to dream big. He implored us to give ourselves permission to dream. Not just one dream but many dreams. Not just serious dreams but fun dreams, about anything and everything. No filter, no constraints.

The conference ended around noon and I could have gone home but I spontaneously chose to hangout downtown. I took myself on a solo date. I browsed the shops. Found a shoe store that was closing and 3 pairs later, well … pure shoe porn. I then treated myself to a red velvet cupcake. (I’m positive I moaned out loud….sooooo good!!!). I got a book and had it autographed by the author. I walked around and simply marveled at the lights and the sounds of city life.

Carol’s day out in the city.

It may come as a bit of suprise to some people but from time to time I too enjoy time to myself. And while this date was not intentionally curved out it still served as “me time”.

How comfortable are you with yourself? Simply, enjoying your own company? How about giving yourself permission to treat and spoil yourself?
Imagine knowing yourself on a deeper, more gratifying, less judgmental way. Imagine being able to describe yourself to others while being empowered by your strengths and experiences and not cringing at the thought of your weaknesses and struggles. Would you take YOU on a date? Well, today I did. Taking yourself on a date is a direct action of loving yourself.  At the end of the day, I felt inspired, rejuvenated, and a sense of quietening of my mind.

Today, I actually lived out a dream that I’d had years ago – a Carol in the city type of day, living my best life!
