May is Lupus Awareness Month

Lupus is an autoimmune disease that is estimated to affect over 5 million people worldwide and I am one of them.

It is an invisible illness where symptoms may not be obvious to the on-looker. Too often we hear “but you don’t look ill” even from well-meaning people. Symptoms include joint pain and swelling, skin rashes, fatigue, weakness, lethargy, brain fog, hair loss, light sensitivity, and depression. In others, major organs are affected, including the skin, kidneys, lungs, etc.
lupus can affect any part of the body in any way at any time, often with unpredictable and life-changing.

Throughout the month of May, Lupus organizations around the world boost their dedication and commitment to solving the mystery of lupus, one of the world’s cruelest, most unpredictable, and devastating diseases, while giving caring support to those who suffer from its brutal impact.

Important dates:

  • May 1-31 – Lupus Awareness Month
  • May 10 – World Lupus Day
  • May 18 – Put On Purple Day
  • Every Friday through May is Lupus Fact Friday

You can support by learning more about this disease by attending an event or finding ways to give through a local or national organization.

Be a Lupus advocate and spread awareness.
